Boat Launch Open To The Public November 1st, 2011
Sooke, BC – October 31, 2011
The District of Sooke is pleased to announce that the Sooke Boat Launch facilities located on West Coast Road will be available for public use on November 1st, 2011. A formal opening ceremony is being planned to which local dignitaries, community representatives, and funding partners will be invited – watch for further announcements.
The Sooke boat launch brought together many funding and community partners, including the federal, provincial, local government and local businesses. The Governments of Canada and British Columbia jointly contributed $605,768 toward the project, through the Canada - British Columbia Building Canada Fund - Communities Component. The boat launch was completed on time and in accordance with the Building Canada agreement and the licences and approvals provided by senior government.
The boat launch and dock includes many state-of-the-art features; a sani-dump for vessels, LED lighting, permeable pavers on both sides of the access road, a 60 metre concrete ramp wide enough to launch two boats side-by-side, a 35 metre turn-around bulb with no encumbrances. The boat launch dock also provides a new home for the Sooke Coast Guard Auxiliary.
“This is an excellent example of cooperation between all levels of government and our community to create public infrastructure,” said District of Sooke Mayor Janet Evans. “The boat launch provides much needed access to the water for all our boating public and visitors and promotes the increased use of our beautiful Sooke Harbour and Basin.”
