Upcoming Road Works Townsend Road
and Maple Avenue South

Sooke, BC – November 18, 2011

The District of Sooke will shortly begin road works to improve two busy arterial roads intersecting Highway 14; Townsend Road and Maple Avenue South. The contractors have been selected and work will begin shortly.

The 2008 Transportation Plan recommended that Townsend Road become a right in/right out intersection on Highway 14 with a pedestrian crosswalk. Further, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has requested that the intersection upgrade be carried out as soon as possible. The upgrades will improve the level of service and pedestrian safety at the intersection and include the relocation of the pedestrian crossing, as well as the installation of an island on Townsend Road and the median on Highway 14.

The District of Sooke is also working with the Capital Regional District Water Services department to coordinate the road surface construction with their water main upgrade which is currently underway. In order to improve the road condition and extend the life of the road before base damage occurs, Maple Avenue South from Grant Road South to Highway 14 is scheduled for an asphalt overlay. The works are intended to be completed as soon as the watermain installation is complete.

  • Alternating one lane traffic may be required periodically to complete the road works;
  • Qualified Traffic Control Personnel will be present at all times throughout the construction;
  • Please slow down and obey construction signs and flaggers.
