Sooke Zoning Bylaw 2011
On November 14, 2011, District of Sooke Council adopted Bylaw No. 500, Sooke Zoning Bylaw, 2011. This bylaw replaces Bylaw No. 270, Sooke Zoning Bylaw, 2006 and represents a significant change to permitted land uses within the District of Sooke.

Some highlights of the new Sooke Zoning Bylaw include:
- Concentrates density in the Town Centre, and within sewer serviced areas;
- Contains two High Density Multiple Family zones (RM3 & RM4) to choose from;
- Contains two Town Centre Commercial zones, a zone for south of Highway 14 and a zone for north of Highway 14;
- Introduces minimum frontages into all zones;
- Updates the Neighbourhood Commercial zone to meet the OCP requirements for commercial nodes;
- Upgrades the Manufactured Home Park zone to reflect community needs;
- Density bonus provisions for multiple family zones;
- Provides for a range of agricultural zones, allowing for young farmers to access land;
- Contains a new zone for Technical Industrial Business Parks;
- Provides for a range of residential zones with differing lot sizes to permit a variety of housing types in Sooke;
- The Rural Zone (RU2) now permits a single family dwelling to have either one secondary suite OR one small suite regardless of the number of single family dwellings on a lot;
- Residential properties fronting Highway 14 can have a maximum fence height of 2 m;
- The parking standards for a property located within the Sooke Town Centre area can be reduced by 50%;
- Parks are now a permitted use in any zone;
