Mayor Wendal Milne

Wendal MilneWendal Milne originally came to Sooke in 1969 with the RCMP where he met his wife Wendy. They have lived in Sooke permanently since 1985 and raised their two children Mark and Kendra here.

Community Service:

  • Past member Sooke Lions Club,
  • Coach, Manager, Vice President and President of Sooke Minor Hockey Association,
  • Trustee and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Sooke Fire District prior to incorporation,
  • Past member of the Sooke Incorporation Committee,
  • Past member of the Sooke Water Advisory Group, and
  • Currently a member of the Sooke Legion

EMPLOYMENT:

RCMP (1969-1995)

  • Sooke - 1969 – 1970: constable from training;
  • Sooke -  1985 – 1987: corporal 2 in charge of detachment; and
  • Sooke  - 1994 – 1995: staff sergeant in charge of the detachment to retirement.

BC Transit (1995 – 2008)

  • In charge of security, Manager of Transit Operations, Victoria and then Director of Operations and Maintenance, Victoria. In the latter two roles, was responsible for approximately 550 employees, 250 vehicles and an annual budget of 57 million dollars.
  • His focus was always to work with a large number of departments and a large group of employees, as a team, to achieve a common goal – service to the public.

Wendal was elected to the District of Sooke Council in 2011.
