How to Pay Your Property Taxes

Property tax notices are issued once a year and include all charges on one notice for ease of processing. Notices are available in your MyCity account by the third week of May each year. You can also sign up in MyCity to receive your notice by email.

Please pay by the due date shown on your notice (first business day in July) to avoid penalties.

What you’ll need to pay

  • Tax Roll (Folio) Number – found on your notice (enter without spaces when paying online).
  • Owner/Property details – to confirm the correct account.
  • If eligible, be ready to claim the B.C. Home Owner Grant (HOG) directly with the Province before the due date.
  • If applicable, confirm with your mortgage company that they will be remitting on your behalf.

Ways to Pay

There are several convenient ways to pay your property taxes. Payments can be made online, by mail, or in person at Municipal Hall.

Please ensure your payment is received by the due date shown on your notice to avoid penalties. Allow extra time for bank or mail processing.

  • Add a payee such as “Sooke (District) – Property Taxes” (wording varies by bank).
  • Use your 8-digit tax roll/folio number as the account number (no spaces or dashes).
  • Allow 3–5 business days for bank processing. Schedule your payment early so it arrives before the due date.

  • Pay by debit or cheque at 2205 Otter Point Road during business hours.
  • Bring your tax notice so staff can scan the barcode.
  • Credit cards are not accepted for property taxes.

  • Drop cheques (no cash) in the secure drop box at Municipal Hall.
  • Include the remittance slip from your notice or write your roll number on the cheque.
  • Payments are processed on the next business day.

  • Mail a cheque payable to District of Sooke to:
    • District of Sooke, 2205 Otter Point Road, Sooke, BC V9Z 1J2
  • Do not mail cash.
  • Postmarks are not accepted as proof of on-time payment—please mail early.

  • Include the remittance slip and write your roll number on the cheque memo line.
  • Post-dated cheques dated on or before the due date are accepted.

  • Many lenders collect and remit taxes.
  • Confirm with your lender each year that they will pay before the due date.
  • You are responsible for any penalties if a third-party payment is late.

You can make payments toward next year’s property taxes at any time. Regular payments can be made by:

  • Setting up recurring bill payments through your financial institution, or
  • Set up automatic prepayments, complete a Pre-Authorized Payment Form and contact Financial Services to learn more.
