Traffic Advisory: Blythwood Road Single Lane Closure – West of Woodlands Road, between 5829 and 5833

The District of Sooke is providing an update on traffic access and ongoing remediation planning for Blythwood Road following winter-related slope instability. 

Current Road Status

One lane of Blythwood Road is currently open to local traffic only. Traffic control measures, including signage, delineators, and reduced speed limits, remain in place to support safety while site monitoring continues. 

Remediation Timelines

The affected area includes a riparian area (Saseenos Creek). As a result, full remediation work must occur within approved fisheries timing windows, which are in place to protect local habitat. 

Based on provincial guidance for the South Coast, the anticipated fisheries window for this type of work in 2026 is generally mid-July to mid-September, subject to site-specific confirmation and permitting. Construction activity that could impact the stream cannot occur outside of this window. 

Next Steps 

Once remediation work is confirmed and scheduled, Blythwood Road will need to be fully closed to allow the work to be completed as safely and efficiently as possible, within available budgets. In the interim, additional short-term closures may be required in response to site conditions or to complete interim works. Any such activities will be identified through on-site signage. 

The District will continue to provide updates as timelines are refined. Road users are asked to follow posted signage and drive with caution through the area.
