Election Results Archive

Since becoming a municipality in 1999, residents of Sooke have helped shape their community through local elections.

The District of Sooke was officially incorporated on December 7, 1999, following a successful incorporation referendum earlier that year. Sooke's first Mayor and six Councillors were elected on November 20, 1999.

This archive provides a historical record of general local election results, municipal by-elections and questions presented to voters since incorporation.

The names listed represent the candidates elected at each election. Changes to Council membership between general elections are identified separately under By-Election Results.

Historical Ballot Questions

In addition to electing their municipal representatives, Sooke voters have been asked to provide direction on matters affecting the community.

Voters were asked whether the District should consider borrowing up to $5 million to support construction and initial operational start-up of the proposed Sooke Gathering Place intergenerational centre at 6671 Wadams Way.

Results:

  • Yes — 2,687 votes
  • No — 1,813 votes

This was a non-binding opinion question. The result does not authorize borrowing, approve construction or commit District-owned land to the project.
