2026 Election: Candidate Nominations Close September 11

Anyone interested in running for Mayor, Councillor or School Trustee in the 2026 General Local Election has until 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, to submit their nomination documents.

Mayor and Councillor Candidates

The District of Sooke is accepting nominations for:

• One Mayor; and
• Six Councillors.

Completed nomination documents for Mayor and Councillor must be filed with the District of Sooke’s Chief Election Officer no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11. Late submissions cannot be accepted.

Nomination documents can be filed in person at:

Sooke, B.C.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their completed documents early to allow time to address any missing information or other concerns before the deadline. Candidates are responsible for ensuring all required documents are complete and received by the Chief Election Officer within the nomination period.

To be eligible to run for Mayor or Councillor, a candidate must:

• Be a Canadian citizen;
• Be at least 18 years old on General Voting Day;
• Have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before filing nomination documents; and
• Not be disqualified under provincial legislation from being nominated, elected or holding office.

Candidates are not required to live or own property in Sooke to run for Mayor or Councillor.

School Trustee Candidates

Sooke voters will also elect three School Trustees representing the Milnes Landing Zone of School District No. 62.

School Trustee nominations are administered separately by School District 62 and must be submitted to the School District by 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11.

General Voting Day is Saturday, October 17, 2026.
