2026 Election: Considering a run for local office? Nomination packages available

Nomination packages are available for people interested in running in the District of Sooke’s 2026 General Local Election. 

On Saturday, October 17, 2026, Sooke voters will elect:

• One mayor;
• Six councillors; and
• Three school trustees representing the Milnes Landing Zone of School District No. 62. 

Anyone considering running for office is encouraged to visit sooke.ca/elections to download the nomination package. Packages include information about candidate eligibility, nomination requirements, campaign responsibilities, financial disclosure and the forms required to seek office. 

Printed packages are also available at the District of Sooke Municipal Hall, 2205 Otter Point Road, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

To be eligible to run for local office, a candidate must:

• Be a Canadian citizen;
• Be at least 18 years old on General Voting Day;
• Have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before filing nomination documents; and
• Not be disqualified under provincial legislation from being nominated, elected or holding office. 

Candidates are not required to live or own property in Sooke to run for mayor or councillor. 

Completed nomination documents may be submitted to the Chief Election Officer beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The nomination period closes at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026. Late submissions cannot be accepted.
