2026 Plebiscite Information Available Online
An information page on the upcoming 2026 Sooke Gathering Place Intergenerational Centre opinion question is available on the District's website.
Eligible voters can now review the non-binding ballot question (plebiscite) and details by visiting sooke.ca/ballot-question.
The Question on the Ballot
Voters will be asked to respond YES or NO to the following question:
"In your opinion, should the District of Sooke consider borrowing up to a maximum of $5 million to support the construction and initial operational start-up of the Sooke Gathering Place intergenerational centre to be located on District-owned property at 6671 Wadams Way?"
Key Information Regarding the Non-Binding Vote
- Purpose: This is a non-binding plebiscite to gauge public opinion, not to directly authorize funding, construction, or land use.
- "YES" Vote: Indicates support for exploring the borrowing and, if passed, prompts staff to report back to Council with further feasibility details.
- "NO" Vote: Indicates opposition to the borrowing proposal, which Council will consider in future planning decisions.
The October 17, 2026 Vote
The question appears on the ballot for the General Local Election on October 17, 2026. Details on eligibility and voting locations, including advance voting opportunities, are available at sooke.ca/elections.
