Above-Average Rainfall Causing Localized Flooding – Sandbag Station Open 24/7 at Ed MacGregor Park

The District of Sooke is advising residents that above-average rainfall has resulted in localized flooding on several local roads. Crews are actively responding and will continue to tend to affected areas as quickly as possible, working through locations in a priority sequence based on greatest impact and with available resources.

Reported Areas of Standing Water on Local Roads

  • 2700 Block Otter Point Road
  • Church Road – North of Throup Road to Churchill Drive
  • Helgesen Road
  • Grant Road near West Coast Road

Residents who are uncertain whether the District is aware of flooding in their area, or who have concerns about localized drainage issues, are encouraged to submit a service request. It is important that we work with the community to identify issues, respond appropriately, and - where possible - implement measures to reduce recurrence.

Safety Near Waterways

Due to increased water levels and fast-moving flows, residents are urged to exercise extreme caution and keep clear of waterways, including rivers, creeks, and ditches. High water levels can change rapidly and may create unsafe conditions along banks and trails.

As a precaution, the following areas are closed until waters recede:

  • Sooke River Nature Trail
  • Sooke Potholes Gateway

Please respect all closure signs and barriers.

Sandbag Station Reminder

The District’s sandbag station at Ed MacGregor Park parking lot remains open and available 24/7. Residents who need sandbags to protect private property may access the station at any time.

Working Together

Residents can help reduce impacts by checking gutters, culverts, and drains on their properties to ensure they remain clear.

Please use caution when driving; avoid driving through large or fast-moving puddles or flooded areas.

The District will maintain active monitoring and response efforts as weather conditions require.
