Beware of door-to-door scam

The District of Sookie is sharing the following information from the Sooke RCMP detachment:

File: 2026-89

Sooke RCMP is warning residents to be cautious after two reports of alleged door-to-door scams have been received in the Sooke area where two men with European accents tried to pressure sell services to seniors.

The first incident was reported on January 7, 2026 after a man conducted a residential visit to sell leftover asphalt as a discounted price. No transaction occurred and the man was turned away. The second incident occurred on January 8, 2026 where a man, matching the same description again attempted to sell leftover asphalt to another resident. The man was associated with a grey Ford F-150 and did not have proper identification. On both occasions, the individual was displaying aggressive behaviour and pressuring the homeowner to purchase the product.

The nature of how the asphalt was obtained for re-sale is suspicious and is currently being investigated.

Sooke RCMP would like to caution the public about this suspected scam and to report any suspicious activity or individuals to police right away.
