Community Invited to Celebrate Raven Ridge Park Enhancements

The free, family-friendly event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will bring together community partners, local organizations and residents for an afternoon of activities, games and connection.

Phase 2 enhancements include a multi-use sport games area, adaptable for multiple sports including basketball, tennis, badminton and soccer, along with sport box and parking accessibility improvements and FireSmart landscaping.

“These improvements help create a more welcoming, accessible and active public space for residents of all ages and abilities,” said Mayor Maja Tait. “Raven Ridge Park is a valued recreation site, and we are pleased to celebrate these enhancements with the community and the many partners who help make events like this possible.”

Festivities will include activities hosted by Sooke Basketball Club, Sooke Minor Hockey and OneAbility - including wheelchair rugby and other accessible sports). A free community barbecue, made possible thanks to MLA Dana Lajeunesse, will be available during the event, with Sooke Lions Club volunteers serving complimentary hot dogs and sweet treats.

The celebration will also recognize the new public art installation by Shelley Davies, who will be on hand for the event. Gift basket draw prizes featuring Davies’ art will take place at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Participants must be present to win.

Those in the neighbourhood are encouraged to walk to the park. Limited parking is available on site. Additional parking is available at SEAPARC Recreation Centre, with carpooling encouraged.

Attendees may also wish to take part in the Summer Solstice Walk, hosted by the Friends of Sooke Parks Society and Juan de Fuca Community Trails Society. This year’s walk will loop from Poirier Elementary School parking lot and along Little River Crossing to Raven Ridge Park, continue to the Sooke Region Museum and Sooke Youth Arts Festival (taking place 12pm to 3pm, and return to the Poirier Elementary School parking lot.
