Community Invited to Welcome Sooke’s Newly Elected Mayor and Council on November 2

The District of Sooke invites residents to help welcome their newly elected Mayor and Council at an informal community meet and greet on Monday, November 2, 2026, following the Inaugural Council Meeting.

The evening marks the beginning of the 2026–2030 Council term, with the Inaugural Council Meeting starting at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will include the swearing-in and oaths of office for incoming Council members, along with the ceremonial presentation of the Chain of Office from outgoing Mayor Maja Tait to Mayor-elect Kevin Pearson.

Joining Mayor-elect Pearson on the incoming Council are Councillors-elect Herb Haldane, Rob Pearce, Katherine Strongwind, Janet Evans, Curtis Peterec and Elliot Lifton.

Following the formal proceedings, community members are invited to connect with their elected representatives, enjoy light refreshments and share a conversation as the new Council begins its four-year term.

“This community has given me a great deal, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Sooke in this new role,” said Mayor-elect Kevin Pearson. “I hope residents will join us, say hello and share what matters to them. Our community brings together many voices and perspectives, and I want people to feel heard and see themselves reflected in the decisions we make. That starts with listening and working together.”

The meet and greet will begin following the adjournment of the Inaugural Council Meeting, approximately 7:00 p.m. (subject to change depending on the length of the meeting).

Residents are welcome to attend both the Inaugural Council Meeting and the community gathering that follows.
