District of Sooke 2026 General Local Election: July 22 Information Session for Interested Candidates

Candidate information session taking place July 22; recording will be posted online for those unable to attend

Individuals interested in running in the 2026 General Local Election are invited to attend an upcoming candidate information session hosted by the District of Sooke on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

The one-hour session will take place in Council Chambers at the District of Sooke Municipal Hall, located at 2205 Otter Point Road. The session will provide an opportunity for prospective candidates to learn more about the role of elected officials, the election process, candidate responsibilities, nomination requirements, and key dates leading up to General Voting Day.

The session will also include information about the role of Council and staff, as well as practical considerations for those thinking about running for local office. The District is pleased to welcome Councillor Sara Duncan from the Town of Sidney as a special guest, who will share reflections on the experience of serving as an elected official.

The session will be recorded and posted to the District of Sooke website following the event for anyone unable to attend.

Nomination packages for those interested in running as a candidate in the 2026 General Local Election will be available at a future date. Packages will include important information about candidate eligibility, nomination requirements, campaign responsibilities, financial disclosure, and required forms.

The period to file nomination documents is from 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026. General Voting Day for the 2026 General Local Election is Saturday, October 17, 2026.
