District of Sooke Resources Deployed to Support B.C. Wildfire Response

District of Sooke personnel, volunteers and equipment have been deployed to assist with wildfire response efforts in British Columbia.

The initial team includes Captain Cam Norris Jones, Firefighter Isaiah Mackie and Firefighter Peter Lerch, along with two District of Sooke Emergency Support Services volunteers, Julie Zadan and John Chow. Together, they are contributing to the broader provincial response and supporting communities affected by wildfire.

Personnel may rotate through the deployment as operational needs evolve. Rotating team members will help sustain the response while supporting the health, safety and well-being of everyone serving under demanding conditions.

“We are deeply grateful to our members for answering the call to help,” said Mayor Maja Tait. “Across the province, firefighters, emergency personnel, volunteers and community partners are working side by side in extraordinarily challenging circumstances. Sooke stands with everyone responding and with our friends and neighbours affected by wildfire. In moments like these, we come together to offer aid, care and compassion.”

The provincial wildfire response depends on the combined efforts of many people. From personnel working on the ground to those coordinating resources, operating equipment, supporting displaced residents and providing care behind the scenes, each person plays an important role.

The District is managing its staffing and resources carefully to support the provincial effort while maintaining emergency response capacity in Sooke. Deployment arrangements will continue to be assessed, and additional personnel may be assigned or rotated as needed.

The District extends its sincere appreciation to everyone contributing to wildfire response efforts and recognizes the families, colleagues and communities supporting responders while they are away from home.

The District of Sooke stands together with communities throughout British Columbia during this difficult wildfire season.
