Early Morning Structure Fire - Rhodonite Drive Area

Upon arrival, crews encountered a fully involved fire on the second floor of a residential home. 

Fire crews conducted a coordinated response to suppress and extinguish the fire. During suppression and search efforts, crews located two occupants. One individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene, and another was transported to hospital. 

Crews were supported by mutual aid partners, including the Metchosin and Otter Point Fire Departments, as well as BC Emergency Health Services and the Sooke RCMP. 

The BC Coroners Service attended the scene. The Office of the Fire Commissioner, in coordination with the RCMP General Investigation Section and Sooke Fire Rescue, is investigating the cause of the fire.

We extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time,” said Fire Chief Wayne Kennedy. “This is a challenging situation for our community and for our responders, and we recognize the impact it has on everyone involved. I want to acknowledge the coordinated efforts of our crews and our mutual aid partners, and extend my appreciation for the care and professionalism demonstrated by all first responders on scene.”
