Fire Danger Rating Increased to Extreme

The Fire Danger Rating within the District of Sooke has increased to Extreme.

At the Extreme level, forest fuels are extremely dry and the risk of wildfire is very serious. New fires can start easily, spread rapidly and challenge fire suppression efforts.

Residents and visitors are reminded that all open burning, including campfires and beach fires, remains prohibited within the District of Sooke until further notice.

The prohibition also includes:

  • Fireworks
  • Sky lanterns
  • Tiki torches
  • Burning barrels

Please use extra caution when working or recreating outdoors. Avoid activities that may create sparks, properly dispose of smoking materials and report any signs of fire immediately.
