Friends of Sooke Parks Return to Pineridge Park for Fall Clean-Up

As the leaves turn and the air cools, Pineridge Park will once again be the focus of community care and stewardship. On Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:00 am to noon, Friends of Sooke Parks invite residents of all ages to roll up their sleeves and take part in a seasonal park clean-up.

The morning’s effort will concentrate on the removal of six of the most persistent invasive plants in our region: broom, daphne, Himalayan blackberry, ivy, holly, and periwinkle. These species, though common, threaten the health of local ecosystems and crowd out native plants. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, hand pruners, and a water bottle. No experience is necessary, and there will be tasks suitable for every age and ability—from light gathering to hands-on removal.

“This is one of those events where a little time makes a big impact,” notes Helen Ritts, Event Organizer with Friends of Sooke Parks Society. “Even 15 minutes of effort contributes to the larger goal of keeping our green spaces healthy and welcoming.”

Pineridge Park, accessible from the 6600 block of Rhodonite Drive or from Pineridge Place off of Eakin Drive, is not only a beloved community space but also the setting for a signature autumn tradition: the Spooky Pumpkin Walk, which returns on Saturday, November 1st. Volunteers are encouraged to make note of both dates and enjoy the rewards of stewardship followed by seasonal celebration.
