INFORMATION BULLETIN: Backyard Burning in Sooke
Friday, September 26, 2025 – The Coastal Fire Centre has lifted the campfire ban, which means Category 1 campfires (small campfires up to 0.5 m × 0.5 m) are permitted again in the Sooke area. Please remember that backyard burning of yard and garden waste is not permitted in Sooke at this time.
When backyard burning is allowed in Sooke:
- November 1 to April 30 only
- Burning is limited to yard and garden debris (branches, leaves, and prunings — no garbage, construction waste, or prohibited materials).
- Fires are only permitted when the BC Venting Index for Southern Vancouver Island rates conditions as “Good.”
- Burn barrels/incinerators are not permitted.
