Information Bulletin: Inaugural Mike Thomas Memorial Walk – Expect Increased Pedestrian Activity by EMCS on Sunday, October 5, 2025

Wednesday, October 1, 2025 – On Sunday, October 5, 2025, the community will gather for the inaugural Mike Thomas Memorial Walk for Sooke Hospice, presented by the Sooke Lions Club in support of the Sooke Hospice Society. The walk begins at 9:00 a.m. at Edward Milne Community School (EMCS), with check-in starting at 8:00 a.m.

Participants will follow a five-kilometre loop:

  • Leaving from EMCS – to – Sooke River Road to Kirby Road – to – Galloping Goose Trail – to -Woodland – to – Blythwood – to – Parkland – returning to – EMCS
  • Walkers will keep to the road shoulder and the Galloping Goose Trail, with most completing the route by approximately 10:00 a.m.
Residents and road users are advised to expect higher pedestrian traffic in the area between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. While participants will remain on the shoulder and trail, drivers and cyclists are asked to use extra caution and be mindful of groups of walkers, especially at crossings and along residential roads.
This first-ever walk is a family-friendly event designed to raise awareness and funds for hospice care in Sooke. There is no fee for children walking with their parents, and they will also be welcomed at the pancake breakfast at EMCS, free of charge. Please note that event t-shirts are not provided to children. The Mike Thomas Memorial Walk brings our community together to honour the late Mike Thomas while supporting the compassionate care provided by the Sooke Hospice Society.
