Mail-In Survey Adds to Community Input on Sooke’s 2027 Budget

The District of Sooke has launched the next phase of its 2027 budget engagement by distributing a mail-in survey to 300 randomly selected households across the community.

The mail-in survey builds on public input gathered throughout the summer through the District’s online budget survey and 18 community pop-up events. Adding a randomly distributed paper survey provides another way to hear from residents, including households that may not have participated through the earlier online or in-person opportunities.

Throughout the engagement, residents have been invited to share their perspectives on municipal services, priorities and the financial pressures facing the community. Feedback will be considered alongside financial, operational and legislative information as Council develops the 2027 budget.

Feedback gathered through the online survey, community pop-ups and mail-in survey will be brought together in a What We Heard Report for presentation to Council. The report is expected to be presented at the November 16, 2026 Council meeting, providing the incoming Council with community input to help inform upcoming budget discussions.

Because this phase uses random distribution as a complement to the District’s broader engagement activities, survey packages have been sent only to the selected addresses. Households that receive a package are encouraged to complete and return their survey by the deadline identified in the package.

How to Return Your Survey

Completed surveys can be returned in any of the following ways:

• By mail: Use the postage-paid return envelope included with the survey package.
• In person: Drop off the completed survey at Municipal Hall, 2205 Otter Point Road.
• 24/7 secure drop box: Place the completed survey in the secure drop box beside the main entrance to Municipal Hall at any time.

The District thanks everyone who has participated in the 2027 budget engagement. Feedback received throughout the engagement will help provide Council with a clearer understanding of community priorities as financial planning moves forward.
