Mayor-elect Kevin Pearson Receives First Poppy to Launch Sooke’s 2026 Poppy Campaign
Mayor-elect Kevin Pearson received the first poppy of the 2026 Poppy Campaign today at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54, marking the ceremonial launch of Sooke’s annual campaign of remembrance.
The presentation is a longstanding tradition that recognizes the service and sacrifice of Canada's veterans and encourages community members to wear a poppy in the days leading up to Remembrance Day on November 11.
“It's an honour to receive the first poppy and join our community in remembering those who have served and sacrificed,” said Mayor-elect Kevin Pearson. “We also recognize the families who have shared in those sacrifices. I encourage everyone in Sooke to wear a poppy, support our local Legion and take time to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy today.”
The Royal Canadian Legion's annual Poppy Campaign runs from October 24 to November 11. Poppies are distributed freely, with donations gratefully accepted in support of veterans and their families. Funds raised through local campaigns are held in trust by Legion branches to support veterans and remembrance initiatives.
The District of Sooke extends its appreciation to the members and volunteers of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 for their ongoing commitment to veterans, their families and the tradition of remembrance.
Community members are also invited to attend Sooke's annual Remembrance Day service on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at the Legion Cenotaph, 6726 Eustace Road. The procession begins at 10:35 a.m. from Evergreen Shopping Centre, with the service commencing at 11:00 a.m.
Lest we forget.
