Mayoral Statement: Remembering Jesse Adams and His Legacy of Compassion

Some people have a remarkable ability to turn compassion into action.

Jesse Adams was one of those people.

Like so many in our community, I was saddened to learn of Jesse’s passing while helping evacuate animals from danger in eastern Ukraine.

As co-founder of RainCoast Dog Rescue Society, Jesse devoted so much of his life to helping animals - and the people who loved them. His work began close to home but reached far beyond our community, taking him wherever there was a need and wherever he felt he could make a difference.

There is something extraordinary in that kind of service.

Jesse did not simply care from a distance. He showed up. He helped. He put compassion into motion, whether that meant rescuing an animal, supporting a family trying to care for a beloved pet, or travelling halfway around the world because animals and people needed help.

His loss will be deeply felt by his family and friends, the RainCoast team, the animal-rescue community and the many people whose lives were touched by his kindness.

To all who loved Jesse, I offer my heartfelt condolences.

His passing is heartbreaking. But the good he put into the world remains - in the animals given another chance, in the families kept together with their pets, in the organizations and volunteers he worked alongside, and in the example he leaves behind.

Jesse reminded us that caring matters.

Showing up matters.

And one person, acting with compassion and purpose, can make an extraordinary difference. May we honour Jesse by carrying some of that compassion forward.
