Municipal Election 2026: General Voting Day This Saturday at Edward Milne Community School
2,386 electors have participated in advance and special voting, not including mail-in ballots
The District of Sooke encourages eligible electors who have not yet voted to participate in General Voting Day on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Edward Milne Community School, 6218 Sooke Road.
A total of 2,386 electors have already cast their ballots through advance and special voting opportunities. The three advance voting days drew 2,372 electors, with 609 voting on October 7, 735 on October 10 and 1,028 on October 14. An additional 14 electors voted at the Special Voting Opportunity at Ayre Manor. These numbers do not include mail-in ballots.
For comparison, 3,358 ballots were cast in Sooke’s entire 2022 General Local Election. This year’s advance and special voting participation alone is equivalent to approximately 71% of the total ballots cast in 2022, with General Voting Day still to come and mail-in ballots not included. This comparison is with the full 2022 election, not just advance voting.
What’s on the ballot?
Voters will elect one Mayor and six Councillors. School District 62 trustees for the Sooke–Milne’s Landing Zone have been acclaimed and will not appear on the ballot.
The ballot also includes a non-binding opinion question asking whether the District should consider borrowing up to $5 million to support construction and initial operational start-up of the proposed Sooke Gathering Place intergenerational centre. The result will inform future Council consideration; it will not authorize borrowing, approve construction or approve a tax increase.
Make a plan to vote
Those registering at the voting place must provide two pieces of identification that together establish their identity and place of residence, with at least one including a signature.
Curbside voting is available for electors who are unable to enter the voting place. Please notify an election official upon arrival or have someone request assistance at the entrance.
Electors voting by mail are reminded that completed ballot packages must be received by the Chief Election Officer before voting closes at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. Ballots received after the deadline cannot be counted.
The District thanks everyone who has participated so far and encourages remaining eligible voters to make their voices heard this Saturday.
