Photo Gallery: Sooke Marks Community Wildfire Preparedness Day 2026

The District of Sooke joined communities across the country on May 2 to recognize Community Wildfire Preparedness Day, bringing residents, partners, and volunteers together for a hands-on stewardship event focused on reducing wildfire risk and building local resilience.

The event highlighted the importance of proactive FireSmart actions, including yard maintenance, debris removal, and vegetation management—simple steps that can make a big difference in protecting homes and neighbourhoods.

As part of the day, the District also launched its new free yard waste program, supporting residents in safely disposing of flammable materials and taking meaningful action around their properties.

This event was supported in part by funding from FireSmart Canada’s Community Wildfire Preparedness Day program, which helps communities across the country take action to reduce wildfire risk.

We extend our thanks to everyone who participated and to the local partners, including Friends of Sooke Parks Society and Sooke's Emergency Support Services, and volunteers who helped make the event a success.
