Property Tax Notices Are in the Mail

District of Sooke property tax notices are now being mailed to property owners, and tax balances are also available online through MyCity accounts.

For the average assessed residential property in Sooke, the residential increase is approximately $186.87 per year, or about $15.57 per month for the 2026 tax year.

The 2026 municipal tax increase reflects continued investment in core services and infrastructure for our community, including more recently introduced 24/7 emergency response service levels. Key areas contributing to the change in the municipal portion of the tax bill include:

  • Fire Services – supporting 24/7 emergency response capacity
  • Police Services – increased policing resources, including school and community liaison support
  • Asset Management – ongoing investment in roads, underground infrastructure, facilities and other public assets
  • E-Comm 9-1-1 Services – emergency call answering and dispatch services

Recent tax increases also reflect changes in service responsibility as Sooke’s population increases. After reaching 15,000 residents, the District became responsible for 90% of policing costs, compared to 70% previously. In addition, the introduction of E-Comm 9-1-1 service added a new municipal cost that was previously borne by the Province.

Your property tax bill also includes amounts collected on behalf of other taxing authorities. These are not set by the District of Sooke, but appear on the same tax notice. For 2026, approximate changes from other taxing authorities include:

  • B.C. Assessment: 8.37%
  • B.C. Transit: 7.38%
  • Vancouver Island Regional Library: 4.82%
  • Municipal Finance Authority: 0.95%
  • Capital Regional District – General: 7.44%
  • Regional Hospital District: -0.5%
  • School District: 8.48%

When all taxing authorities are included, the average residential property will see a total increase of approximately $276.91 per year, or about $23.08 per month.

Properties connected to the municipal wastewater system will also see the Sewer Parcel Tax on their property tax notice. This charge applies only to properties within the sewer service area and helps fund the cost of operating, maintaining and renewing the municipal wastewater system.
