Sooke Crosswalk Honours Veterans and 100 years of the Sooke Legion

A new commemorative crosswalk has been installed at the entrance to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 on Eustace Road, near Shields Road, creating a lasting and visible tribute to veterans and all those who have served and sacrificed.

The crosswalk features red maple leaves and the silhouette of a service member standing with two children, accompanied by the words: “In honour of those who served and sacrificed.” The design reflects both remembrance and the importance of carrying veterans’ stories and legacies forward to future generations.

“Every person who crosses here will be invited to pause and remember the courage, sacrifice and service of generations of veterans,” said Mayor Maja Tait. “This crosswalk is more than a beautiful addition to our community—it is a lasting expression of gratitude. It also provides a meaningful way to celebrate the Sooke Legion’s remarkable 100 years of service to veterans, their families and the wider community. On behalf of the District, I offer heartfelt congratulations to Branch 54 on this important milestone.”

For a century, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 has supported veterans and their families, promoted remembrance and contributed to the well-being of the Sooke community. The District congratulates the Legion’s members, volunteers and supporters—past and present—on its 100th anniversary.
