Traffic Advisory: Increased Pedestrian Traffic During The Grand Parade – September 19

Motorists are advised to expect increased pedestrian activity in Sooke's town centre on Saturday, September 19, as participants take part in the third annual Grand Parade Sooke fundraising walk.

Walkers will depart at approximately 11 a.m. from the event start and finish area at 6660 Sooke Road, near the kiosk in front of A&W, and travel along two- and five-kilometre routes through the community.

Drivers should use extra caution and watch for pedestrians and event volunteers, particularly in the following areas:

  • Sooke Road/Highway 14, including near Townsend Road;
  • Townsend Road;
  • Wadams Way;
  • Otter Point Road, including near the Municipal Hall; and
  • pedestrian crossings connecting the roadway portions of the route with nearby park and trail areas.

Participants on the longer route will travel from Sooke Road through the Townsend Road and Wadams Way area, use nearby park trails and return toward Sooke Road via Otter Point Road.

Motorists are asked to slow down, remain alert at intersections and pedestrian crossings, and follow the direction of event personnel where present.

The Grand Parade is a family-friendly fundraising walk hosted locally by the Sooke Region Communities Health Network, supporting programs and initiatives serving seniors and their families.
