Traffic Advisory: Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk on September 30

Friday, September 26, 2025 – The District of Sooke advises that short term traffic delays are expected during the Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk on Tuesday, September 30.

The Opening Ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Sea to Tree property, 2008 Murray Road, before participants proceed to the Healing Walk at 12:00 p.m.
Walkers will cross Highway 14 at the signalized intersection and then travel along Otter Point Road to John Phillips Memorial Park, accompanied by support vehicles. Motorists not participating are encouraged to avoid this area between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to reduce congestion and ensure the safety of walkers.
A detour will be in place during the walk. Access to and from Wadams Way at Otter Point Road will be closed from approximately 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Traffic control personnel will be on site to support participants and assist those travelling in the area.
Expect slow-moving traffic during this time, as support vehicles travel alongside participants in a show of unity, support, and healing for survivors, families, and Indigenous communities.
Those attending the local Truth and Reconciliation event are encouraged to carpool and use alternative modes of transportation where possible. Several parking options are available in the area – please see the event map for details.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation. This walk is an important act of healing and remembrance – an opportunity to walk together in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. All are encouraged to join the gathering at John Phillips Memorial Park following the walk, where the community will come together in reflection, learning, and support.
