Saturday 7 November 2026, 11:00am-3:00pm
free admission | all welcome
To commemorate Indigenous Veterans Day (8 November) and Remembrance Day (11 November), the Sooke Region Museum has invited re-enactors from the Victoria-Esquimalt Military Re-enactors Association (VEMRA) to bring military history to the Museum grounds for this special day of remembrance.
Visit the Sooke Region Museum to meet re-enactors who will portray various periods and places where Canadian military personnel have served. Re-enactors will be stationed throughout the grounds, outside (weather depending) and inside some of the buildings, such as Moss Cottage, portraying war on the homefront.
You are invited to ask questions and learn from the re-enactors throughout the event. Exploring the Museum grounds you may meet a Boer War era (1899-1902) soldier and civilian couple on the homefront, women from World War 2 era (1939-1945) in civilian attire also depicting war on the homefront, and a front-line soldier and a medical aid station from the Korean War (1950-1953).
These re-enactors will be here to talk to visitors about the various roles they portray, answering your questions based on their passionate research on the periods and people they depict. Members of VEMRA have a wide variety of interests and specialties and are encouraged to research and pursue their chosen areas of interest. This has led to a wonderfully diverse assortment of impressions that are constantly being added to and improved. Their area of focus is primarily on the military and related history of Canada and her allies for the years 1775 - 1991. They are often found at Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites with this special appearance in Sooke for this event designed to encourage reflection and remembrance.
Admission is free, and the Museum Gift & Book Shop and Visitor Centre will be open as usual.Learn more by visiting the Sooke Region Museum and Visitor Information Centre website.
