Community Investment Program
The Community Investment Program (CIP) is how the District of Sooke partners with local organizations to deliver programs, services, and events that enhance community wellbeing.
Through a mix of policies and funding streams, the CIP directs District resources where they can make the greatest local impact — fostering collaboration and community empowerment. By working together with residents, organizations, and partners, the program helps local ideas grow into shared successes that strengthen Sooke as a whole.
Program Goals
The CIP is guided by Council’s strategic priorities and aims to:
- Support initiatives that build a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable community.
- Strengthen partnerships with local non-profits, volunteers, and businesses.
- Encourage innovation and measurable outcomes in community programming.
- Ensure responsible and transparent use of public funds.
Program Areas
The Community Investment Program includes several connected policies and initiatives. Each supports a different kind of community partnership:
| Program Area | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Sponsorship Contribution Policy | Provides financial support for community events, initiatives, or causes that align with the District’s values and promote community pride. |
| Community Service Agreement Policy | Establishes formal agreements with organizations that deliver community services on behalf of the District (e.g., social supports, visitor services). |
| Community Grant Policy | Offers project-based funding to help local non-profits deliver short-term programs, events, or services that benefit residents. |
| Letters of Support Policy | Confirms the District’s endorsement of non-government organization grant applications that align with community priorities. |
| Bike Rack for Business Programs | Provides bike racks for businesses at no cost to support mobility options, enhance parking efficiency, and improve customer access. |
| Permissive Tax Exemption Policy | Reduces property taxes for eligible non-profit organizations that provide community benefits. |
| Local Government School Program (Sooke Council Club) | Engages youth in civic learning and leadership opportunities. |
