Public Alert Notification System
About Alertable
During an emergency, timely and accurate information saves lives. The District of Sooke uses Alertable, a public notification system, to share critical updates with residents and visitors as quickly as possible.
Alertable delivers trusted information directly to your phone, computer, or smart device. Whether it’s a power outage, evacuation notice, or severe weather alert, you’ll receive instructions to help you stay safe and make informed decisions. There is no fee or cost to sign up. Your contact information is completely confidential and storm in a secure database.
How It Works
When an emergency occurs, District staff activate Alertable to send alerts about situations that could impact your safety or daily life. Messages are brief, direct, and verified.
You can choose how to receive alerts:
- Mobile app notifications
- Text message (SMS)
- Landline phone call (for voice alerts)
- Smart speakers and home devices
You control your settings—decide which types of notifications you want and how you want to receive them. You can also pause alerts when travelling outside the area.
Types of Alerts You May Receive
Alertable is used for both emergency and non-emergency notifications, including:
- Evacuation alerts and orders
- Severe weather warnings (wind, heat, flooding)
- Wildfire or smoke advisories
- Boil water or water service notices
- Emergency Support Services (ESS) reception centre locations
- Community safety information and recovery updates
Alerts are only issued when needed and always verified by the District’s Emergency Operations team.
