Sooke Fire Rescue protects lives, property, and the environment through emergency response, fire prevention, public education, and community partnerships. Our team of dedicated career and paid-on-call firefighters serve the District of Sooke 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We respond to a wide range of emergencies including fires, medical incidents, motor vehicle collisions, hazardous materials, and technical rescues. We also play an active role in emergency planning, training, and public education to help keep our community safe and resilient.
About Us
Established in 1913, Sooke Fire Rescue has a proud history of community service and volunteerism. Today, the department operates out of two fire stations and responds to more than 1,000 calls annually.

Fire Prevention and Inspections
Fire Prevention conducts building inspections, enforces the BC Fire Code, and helps reduce fire risks through education and awareness. We work closely with residents and businesses to identify hazards and promote safe practices.

- Smoke Alarm Program: Free smoke alarm checks and installations for residents in need. Drop in, Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm.
- Car Seat Checks and Installation: Certified technicians provide complimentary car seat inspections and installation guidance to help keep children safe on the road. Drop in, Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm.
- School Tours: Classes and youth groups are welcome to visit Fire Station No. 1 to learn about fire safety, see equipment up close, and meet the firefighters who serve our community. Call 250.642.5422 to book.

Public Education
We provide fire safety presentations, school visits, and community event demonstrations to promote prevention and preparedness. These programs help residents understand how small actions — like checking smoke alarms or planning escape routes — save lives.

Burning in Sooke is regulated to protect public safety and air quality. Before burning, please check current restrictions and apply for the required permits.
Training and Professional Development
All firefighters participate in regular training that meets or exceeds National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. From live fire simulations to specialized rescue techniques, ongoing training ensures safe, efficient service to our community.
