Our Wild Neighbours: Wils Wise Society Wildlife Coexistence Symposium Returns to Sooke November 7

Sharing our community with wildlife is part of what makes living in Sooke special. It also invites us to consider how our everyday choices can help people and animals thrive alongside one another.

On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the Wild Wise Society invites residents to explore that connection at its 2nd Annual Wildlife Coexistence Symposium, taking place at Edward Milne Community School in Sooke.

The event brings together wildlife experts, stewardship organizations and community members for a day of learning about the animals that call British Columbia home—and the practical steps we can take to support coexistence.

Speakers representing Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue, Raincoast Conservation Foundation, BC Conservation Officer Service and Wild Wise Society will share insights into the fascinating lives of seals, wolves, bears and cougars. Participants will learn about the challenges facing wildlife across the province and how greater understanding can help inform our actions in our neighbourhoods and outdoor spaces.

The learning continues beyond the presentations. Exhibitor booths featuring organizations including Wild ARC and Ocean Wise will offer opportunities to ask questions, explore educational resources and discover ways to get involved in wildlife stewardship.

Whether you spend your weekends exploring local trails, have recently moved to the Island or are simply curious about your wild neighbours, the symposium offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding and connect with others who share an interest in caring for wildlife.

The District of Sooke thanks Wild Wise Society and the participating organizations for bringing this learning opportunity to our community. Building awareness and sharing practical knowledge help turn an appreciation for wildlife into thoughtful, everyday action.

General admission is $10, and tickets are on sale now. Join the conversation on November 7 and discover how we can all contribute to a community where people and wildlife thrive together.
