Notice is hereby provided of a Special Council Meeting to be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Bear Meeting Room, 2205 Otter Point Rd, Sooke, BC. The meeting will be closed to the public pursuant to section 90(1)(c) of the Community Charter regarding labour relations or other employee relations.
Budget deliberations continue March 16 following Council direction for staff to develop updated 2026 Budget and 2026–2030 Financial Plan options. Scenarios will consider approximately $20 per month for the average property to support priority services, including sustained 24/7 police and fire coverage.

On International Women’s Day, Mayor Maja Tait reflects from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Board Week on the contributions of women in Sooke and across Canada, celebrating leadership, community impact, and inspiring the next generation of girls to lead.

The Sooke Region Museum’s Spring Speaker Series features Kristen Miskelly (March 19) on native plants and Andy MacKinnon (April 16) on soil ecosystems. Evening talks begin at 7pm in the Events Pavilion; admission is by donation.
Limited garden plots are available at the Sooke Community Garden on Wadams Way. Operated by Transition Sooke's Sustainable Food Sovereignty and Agriculture Action Group, the garden welcomes all experience levels. Email sookecommunitygardens@gmail.com to reserve a plot. First-come, first-served.
Sooke residents are invited to a free Septic Savvy workshop on March 8 (1–3:30 p.m.) in Otter Point. Hosted by the CRD and 606 Water Group, the session covers septic care, maintenance, and protecting your system.
Update, March 10, 2026: The District of Sooke will temporarily close the Little River (DeMamiel Creek) Crossing trail between the Poirier School access and bridge on March 9, starting at 7:00 a.m. to complete final project work. The closure is expected to continue throughout the week (weather permitting).
