Sooke Region Food CHI met with a federal representative and Sooke councillors to discuss food security, local food systems and community capacity. Congratulations to the organization on receiving a $42,000 federal grant to support and expand its gleaning project!

The cemetery area at Millennium Memorial Park is temporarily closed. The rest of the park remains open.

The Sooke Philharmonic Fling returns Sunday, July 5 at 2:30 p.m. with Music and Movement. Enjoy live orchestral music, prize draws and family-friendly fun at Ed Macgregor Park. Bring a chair, hat and sunscreen. Parking is limited; please carpool or use alternative modes of transportation, if possible. 

Property taxes are due Thursday, July 2. Pay and claim your Home Owner Grant by the deadline to avoid a 10% late penalty.

Sooke Region Museum hosts its Annual Open House and Salmon BBQ June 28, featuring free activities, tours, live music and advance salmon meal tickets.

The District of Sooke joins communities across Canada in recognizing National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, a day to honour and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, languages and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. 

BC Transit’s June 29 seasonal service change includes route adjustments, added ferry and tourism service, school trip suspensions, and a West Saanich detour planned construction.

The District reminds residents to give sows and cubs space, use caution on trails, secure attractants, and report concerning bear behaviour to Conservation.
