Original message: Sunriver Nature Trail is closed due to flooding. The Sooke Potholes Gateway remains open but may open late tomorrow pending safety inspections. With rising water levels, residents are urged to use caution near rivers and waterways.
Please be advised that the District of Sooke municipal office will be closed from Thursday, December 25 through Thursday, January 1 for the winter holiday period.
Emergency services are not impacted by this closure and will continue to operate as usual.
Regular office hours will resume on Friday, January 2 at 8:30 a.m.

BC Transit is seeking feedback on handyDART services as part of the Victoria Regional Transit Plan refresh. An online survey runs Nov 28–Dec 22, 2025, with open houses in Langford, Victoria, and Sidney.
The Land Use Development Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Council Chambers has been cancelled due to no business requiring committee consideration. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
The national emergency alert system is tested twice a year, when possible. The last test occurred Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 1:55 pm (PDT) and the next test is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1:55 pm (PST).
Pursuant to sections 24 and 26 of the Community Charter, and in accordance with section 94, notice is hereby given that the District of Sooke intends to dispose of an interest in District-owned land by way of a lease for less than market value.
Backyard burning in Sooke is allowed November 1 to April 30 only during good ventilation. Check sooke.ca/burning, burn clean yard waste safely, and avoid smoke impacts to protect neighbours’ health and local air quality community.
Residents are invited to a family-friendly Pineridge Park clean-up October 4, 10–noon, removing invasive plants. Bring gloves, help protect local ecosystems, and support community stewardship ahead of the annual Spooky Pumpkin Walk this fall together.
Sooke reminds residents to secure garbage, compost, and fruit during fall to prevent wildlife conflicts. Simple actions—like proper storage and timely fruit cleanup—help protect both the community and local wildlife.
