The District of Sooke hosts a free Winter Yard Waste Day January 10, 2026, inviting residents to drop off yard waste and non-invasive plants, supporting FireSmart practices, seasonal cleanup, and community wildfire risk reduction efforts. Sooke residents can drop off materials between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Sooke Parks Yard, 2070 Kaltasin Road.
The District of Sooke welcomes Greg Lowis as Director of Corporate Services, bringing extensive municipal experience, legislative expertise, and a community-focused approach to governance. His leadership will strengthen collaboration, support Council processes, and enhance organizational capacity starting January 7, 2026.
Together with the community, the Sooke Lions Club raised $1,566.20 for the Sooke Food Bank through Breakfast with Santa and the Santa Parade!
At the December 8, 2025 Regular Council meeting, Sooke Council adopted a new Official Community Plan (OCP), updating the 2010 plan and guiding 20 years of growth, emphasizing compact development, housing needs, environmental stewardship, and clarified waterfront policies.
Get ready to celebrate the holiday season with the Sooke Santa Parade, happening on Sunday, December 7, 2025! This year’s theme, “Sooke Light Up for Santa,” invites everyone to come together and share in the sparkle, joy, and community spirit of the holidays. Festivities will kick off at 4:00pm at the Vancouver Island Regional Library, and the parade begins at 5:00pm.
The District of Sooke will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. regarding Official Community Plan (OCP) Bylaw No. 800, 2022. The hearing will take place in the Council Chambers at Sooke Municipal Hall, 2225 Otter Point Road. Learn more at sooke.ca/publichearings.
The Sooke Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC) broke ground on the new Sooke Skatepark! The public is invited to monitor the project’s progress online at the Sooke Skate Park Project Page.
The District of Sooke is pleased to highlight and support Code 3 Santa, an annual community fundraiser hosted by the Sooke Fire Fighters in support of the Sooke Food Bank and the Sooke Christmas Bureau. This festive event returns on November 29 and 30 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Sooke Fire Hall #1 (2225 Otter Point Road).
Short traffic delays and temporary closures will occur in Sooke’s town centre on November 11, 2025, for the Remembrance Day parade and ceremony. Expect rolling delays on Highway 14 and localized closures near the Legion.
This holiday season, the Sooke Fire Department invites the community to join in the spirit of giving at the annual Fill a Fire Truck event, taking place Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7, 2025.
