District of Sooke 2026 General Local Election: Information Session for Interested Candidates: Individuals interested in running in the 2026 General Local Election are invited to attend an upcoming candidate information session hosted by the District of Sooke on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The session will be recorded and posted to the District of Sooke website following the event for anyone unable to attend. Backyard burning in Sooke is allowed November 1 to April 30 only during good ventilation. Check sooke.ca/burning, burn clean yard waste safely, and avoid smoke impacts to protect neighbours’ health and local air quality community.
Following Council direction provided on Monday, October 27, 2025, the District of Sooke is in the process of scheduling a Special Council Meeting to discuss the Official Community Plan (OCP).
As the rainy season begins, the District of Sooke has opened a free, 24/7 self-serve sandbag station at Ed Macgregor Park (6765 West Coast Road). Sand and bags are available for residents and businesses — just bring a shovel and fill what you need.
Otter Point Fire Fighters host Halloween Night at Camp Barnard on Oct 31, 2025. Festivities begin with a 6:30pm Bonfire, followed by 7:30pm fireworks. Families enjoy refreshments, candy for children, and a celebration highlighting regional fire department collaboration.
The Spooky Pumpkin Walk takes place November 1, 5:00–7:30 p.m. at Pineridge Park. Families can display carved pumpkins in a glowing forest trail, support wildlife safety, and enjoy a festive, community-focused evening.
Sooke Spook returns October 25, 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the Sooke Region Museum. This free, family-friendly event features costumes, music, festive displays, interactive activities, and food for purchase, offering a playful evening of Halloween fun and community celebration.
The Halloween Skate takes place October 28, 7:00–8:15 p.m., inviting all ages to enjoy costumed skating, prizes, and spooky music. Regular admission applies, no registration required. Rentals available. Visit seaparc.ca for details and upcoming programs.
One resident was treated for smoke inhalation after an early morning mobile home fire on Kaltasin Road. Sooke Fire Rescue, with mutual aid, contained the fire to one unit and protected neighbouring homes successfully early this morning.
Residents are invited to a family-friendly Pineridge Park clean-up October 4, 10–noon, removing invasive plants. Bring gloves, help protect local ecosystems, and support community stewardship ahead of the annual Spooky Pumpkin Walk this fall together.
