At the December 8, 2025 Regular Council meeting, Sooke Council adopted a new Official Community Plan (OCP), updating the 2010 plan and guiding 20 years of growth, emphasizing compact development, housing needs, environmental stewardship, and clarified waterfront policies.
Business owners are reminded to renew their 2026 business licence by February 28, 2026. Renew online, by mail, or in person. Please contact the District with questions or business changes before submitting your renewal.

Original message: Sunriver Nature Trail is closed due to flooding. The Sooke Potholes Gateway remains open but may open late tomorrow pending safety inspections. With rising water levels, residents are urged to use caution near rivers and waterways.
The 2025 Sooke Santa Run returns December 13 at 5 p.m., with festive fire trucks touring neighbourhoods, GIS tracking, and donation collection for the Sooke Christmas Bureau - spreading community cheer, generosity, and holiday spirit across Sooke.
Please be advised that the District of Sooke municipal office will be closed from Thursday, December 25 through Thursday, January 1 for the winter holiday period.
Emergency services are not impacted by this closure and will continue to operate as usual.
Regular office hours will resume on Friday, January 2 at 8:30 a.m.

BC Transit is seeking feedback on handyDART services as part of the Victoria Regional Transit Plan refresh. An online survey runs Nov 28–Dec 22, 2025, with open houses in Langford, Victoria, and Sidney.
Crews will be replacing a utility pole near 2047 Otter Point Road on Wednesday, December 3rd, starting at 9:00 a.m. for approximately 2 hours. Single-lane alternating traffic will be in place with Traffic Control Personnel on-site, and minor delays are expected. Use alternate routes where possible.
Join the community for a magical evening at the 2025 Solstice Lantern Walk on Sunday, December 21 at 6:30 p.m. Hosted by the Friends of Sooke Parks Society at John Phillips Memorial Park, this annual event brings residents together to celebrate the longest night of the year with warmth, light, and connection.
The District of Sooke is pleased to share that Noel Night returns on Thursday, December 5, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., inviting the community to enjoy an evening of festive fun while supporting local small businesses throughout Sooke.
