The Land Use and Development Committee meeting scheduled for June 2, 2026, has been cancelled and rescheduled to June 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Effective May 15 at noon, Category 1 campfires will again be permitted in Sooke and throughout the Coastal Fire Centre. Category 2 and 3 open burning prohibitions remain in effect until further notice.

T'Sou-ke Nation, in collaboration with local partners including the District of Sooke Emergency Management Program, is hosting an Emergency Preparedness Open House on May 9 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the T'Sou-ke Nation Community Complex & Health Centre, inviting residents to learn, connect, and strengthen community readiness for emergencies.

The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail is expected to fully reopen this summer following storm damage. Repairs are underway, with a confirmed reopening date to be announced by BC Parks in mid-May.

Through this proclamation, the District of Sooke recognizes May as Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of sun safety, the risks of UV exposure, and the role of early detection and public education in reducing skin cancer rates.

BC Hydro will complete overnight work on Sooke Rd until May 22, with possible delays. Expect lane reductions and alternating traffic. Drivers should follow signage and flaggers as crews finish system improvements.
