Notice of a Special Council Meeting on April 1, 2026, at 3 p.m. The meeting will be closed to the public under Community Charter s.90(1)(e) regarding labour relations or other employees relations.
Council has scheduled a Special Council Meeting for April 1 at 4 p.m. to continue Budget 2026 discussions, including options to reduce the proposed tax increase while maintaining core services. To follow the budget process, visit letstalk.sooke.ca/budget.
Road maintenance on Otter Point Road between Rhodonite and Wadams Way March 26–27, 9am–3pm. Expect single-lane traffic. Work improves drainage; patching will follow next week.
The District of Sooke has appointed Jeff Miller as Director of Operations. With over 30 years’ experience in engineering and municipal operations, he brings strong leadership and infrastructure expertise from roles across Alberta and Vancouver Island. Jeff will begin with the District on March 30, 2026.
Filming will take place in Sooke on March 26 throughout the day and evening. Residents may notice marked vehicles, including a police-style SUV, within the community. Activities are approved by the District, and no traffic disruptions as a result of the film production are expected.
Local businesses are invited to participate in a new Sooke Region coupon book, promoting shopping local while supporting a community initiative. The program offers free advertising, customer incentives, and helps raise funds for the Sooke Gathering Place.
Applicant hosted public information meeting on a proposed West Coast Road Town Centre development. Learn about the early-stage rezoning proposal, ask questions, and share feedback with the applicant. March 31, 4:30–6:30 p.m., Sooke Community Hall (drop-in format).
Sooke’s 2026–2030 Financial Plan heads to three readings at the March 23 Regular Council Meeting, with a community budget open house tentatively scheduled for April 8 (pending three readings on March 23). The Plan looks to balance affordability, services, and policing cost pressures and sets a potential municipal tax increase at $20 per month for the average residential property.
