The District of Sooke has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association, recognizing excellence, transparency, and a strong commitment to full disclosure in its annual financial reporting.
Applications for Sooke’s 2026 Community Grant Program are open March 1 to April 8. Eligible non-profits can apply for up to $5,000 in seed funding for new initiatives benefiting Sooke residents. Apply online at sooke.ca/community-grant-program.
Join the Sewing Supplies Swap on March 8 at the Sooke Library. Hosted by Zero Waste Sooke and VIRL, this free event invites residents to donate and exchange sewing supplies while supporting creativity, reuse and waste reduction.
Sooke Seedy Saturday returns February 28 at the Sooke Community Hall, featuring hands-on workshops, local seeds and plants, kids’ activities, and sustainable food-growing inspiration. Admission is by donation, supporting Sooke Region Food CHI Society initiatives.
The Westcoast Sooke 10K returns March 8, 2026, featuring a scenic 10K course from Edward Milne Community School. Expect temporary traffic impacts. Register through the Island Series website.
Edward Milne Community School students present Bright Star at Sooke Community Theatre, March 5–7. Featuring 46 performers, live orchestra and crew, this heartfelt musical highlights local youth talent in an inspiring story of love and redemption. Tickets available online.
Residents are invited to walk in Sooke’s Coldest Night of the Year on February 28, 2026. This family-friendly fundraiser supports local programs addressing homelessness, hunger, and hardship, with proceeds benefiting the Sooke Shelter Society and community services.
Public input is invited on Bill M226 (“Xavier’s Law”), proposing a 30-day driving ban for reckless driving, mandatory police reporting, and a new offence for prohibited driving. Submit feedback via the Parliamentary Committees Portal by 3:00 p.m. PT, March 10, 2026.
On February 26, 2026, the District of Sooke will conduct CCTV inspections of underground pipes to support maintenance. Temporary traffic impacts are expected on Church Road, Brownsey Boulevard, and Brule Drive. Motorists should follow signage and allow extra travel time.
